The Minister of Animal Development, Hamdi Ould Cheine, held on Thursday in Nouakchott a working session with his Senegalese counterpart, the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Maboye Diagne, on the preparation for the provision of sacrificial animals for 2024.
\nHis Excellency the Minister of Animal Development explained that these bilateral meetings are evidence of the political will of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh EL Ghazouani, and his brother, His Excellency President, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who made Mauritania his first foreign destination, to strengthen relations of cooperation and economic and cultural exchange between the two brotherly countries, noting that this is embodied in the determination of the two sectors to push forward and move forward with economic activities related to the livestock sector, which is a vital sector in the economy of the two countries.
\nHe pointed out that the sector has taken important steps and measures, including the construction of livestock markets in the border areas as a way to facilitate the supply of livestock to Senegalese markets on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, in addition to facilitating export procedures and health follow-up of animals and providing appropriate conditions to enable developers, economic operators and professional organizations to supply the Senegalese markets with sacrifices.
\nThe Minister expressed his gratitude to the Senegalese government for what it has done to facilitate the movement and security of Mauritanian citizens and their livestock by improving the conditions for receiving and following up the movement of livestock, free access to water and pastures, as well as exemption from fees, equipping points of sale and providing them with the necessary services such as water, lighting and animal feed, in addition to extending the grace periods granted to go on after the Eid period.
\nThe purpose of the working visit is to brief the Mauritanian government on all the arrangements made by the Senegalese government to prepare well for the Grand Eid or Tabaski festival, said the Senegalese Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock.
\nThe Minister pointed out that imports from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania contributed significantly to covering the estimated needs in 2023 of 810 thousand sheep, noting that the import needs for this year are estimated at 250 thousand sacrifices.
