The meeting of the high-level specialized working group began on 29 February in Algiers, with the participation of a delegation from our country.<\/p>\n
The objective of the meeting is to make the final amendments to the decisions and commitments that will be included in the ‘Algiers Declaration’ before it is submitted to the ministerial meeting to be held tomorrow, 1 March, to present them at the summit of heads of state and government of the Forum of Gas Exporting Countries (GECF), scheduled for 2 March.<\/p>\n
The first day of this summit, which will continue until 2 March, will see the presentation of a report on the global gas outlook for 2050 in the presence of gas industry professionals, academics, and representatives of numerous international media who came to cover this summit, held in circumstances characterized by climate change with negative environmental impacts on the climate.<\/p>\n
The work and discussions of the first day will be closed by the inauguration of the GECF Gas Research Institute (GRI) headquarters, located in Algiers, an innovation and research organization dedicated to improving the understanding and application of gas-related technologies.<\/p>\n
The GRI will play a pivotal role in technologies’ development, dissemination, and transformation, which will improve the natural gas industry’s efficiency and environmental performance by providing training programs to experts from member countries. The institute will also share best practices and knowledge by developing partnerships with research centers and universities in member countries while supporting the GECF vision and mission as a global natural gas advocate and platform for cooperation and dialogue.<\/p>\n
The forum’s second day will be marked by the holding of a GECF extraordinary ministerial meeting attended by delegations from the Member States, including our delegation led by Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, the Minister of Oil, Mines, and Energy,who is also the spokesperson for the government, in his capacity as an observer.<\/p>\n
Ministers will discuss the final version of the declaration and related decisions, in addition to the GECF awards ceremony, in its second edition, in honor of personalities and organizations who have made exceptional contributions to the gas sector.<\/p>\n
During the second day, the GECF will also sign memorandums of understanding with the AU African Energy Chamber (AEC) and the Economic Research Institute for the ASEAN region and East Asian countries.<\/p>\n
The third and final day will see the holding of the summit with a meeting of heads of state and government to approve the ‘Algiers Declaration’, and a news conference announcing the end of the summit.<\/p>\n
The Algiers Summit is of global importance, given the participation of leaders, delegates, and partners from different countries worldwide. Strategic dialogue and cooperation to pave the way for safe and sustainable energy by creating a forum for ideas and innovations to develop the energy sector are also on the menu for this Summit.<\/p>\n
The GECF seventh session builds on the rich legacy of previous sessions, which have each contributed significantly to the development of the global gas sector, according to the organizers met by the correspondent of the Mauritanian news agency (AMI).<\/p>\n
The Summit reflects Algeria’s important role on the global energy scene in a context characterized by the fundamental importance of gas in international energy security, they added.<\/p>\n
It is noteworthy that the GECF member states are Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela), while the Member States with observer status are Mauritania, Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mozambique, and Peru.<\/p>\n
