On 5 February, in Nouakchott, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Emmeme Ould Beibate, received a delegation from the Arab Organization<\/em> for Agricultural Development<\/em> (AOAD), led by its Director General, Professor Ibrahim Adama Ahmed Doukheiri, currently ona visit to our country.<\/p>\n

The meeting focused on the program for localization and expansion of wheat cultivation in Mauritania as part of the partnership between our country and OADA.<\/p>\n

The meeting was marked by a presentation by Dr Ali Moussa Abkar, Supervisor of the Integration Department at the AOAD.<\/p>\n

Dr Ali addressed the specificities and agricultural capacities in Mauritania, the current situation of wheat cultivation, and the most important challenges facing this crop in light of the abundance of water and vast agricultural lands,<\/p>\n

particularly on the bank of the Senegal River.<\/p>\n

He also outlined the challenges created by the acute shortage of researchers specializing in wheat cultivation, the lack of integration of the Mauritanian private sector in this area, and the absence of infrastructure and<\/p>\n

institutions that accompany the process of growing wheat.<\/p>\n

He reviewed the practical proposals that would make it possible to achieve the objectives set, particularly the strengthening of the capacities of technicians and executives of the ministry in the field of wheat production techniques through the establishment of a program<\/p>\n

for local production of wheat seeds, as well as the involvement of the Mauritanian private sector to improve the investment climate.<\/p>\n

The meeting was an opportunity for the Minister to express his gratitude for the efforts made by the Organization to train, localize, and expand the cultivation of wheat, stressing that his department counts on the experience of the Organization in this<\/p>\n

field. He called on experts from both parties to deepen the study and draw practical conclusions that take into account the reality and prospects of wheat cultivation in Mauritania.<\/p>\n

For his part, the AOAD Director General affirmed the availability of his institution to keep pace with the sector’s efforts aimed at localizing and developing wheat cultivation, stressing that the program focuses on two main axes, namely developing the existing traditional production system and encouraging the private sector to join this process.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
