The 10th contingent of the National Gendarmerie left Nouakchott, on Saturday morning, for Bangui, as part of the UN peacekeeping force in the Central African Republic.<\/p>\n
The new contingent is made up of 140 elements, including 11 officers and non-commissioned officers specialized in the fields of operational training, health, technology, and logistics.<\/p>\n
The detachment has been trained in recent months on maintaining order, protecting people and property, securing personalities, government buildings, and UN structures, and on relief and humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n
The Chief of Staff of the National Gendarmerie, Brigadier General Abdallahi Ould Ahmed A\u00efcha, called on the members of the contingent, whom he considers ambassadors of Mauritania to the United Nations, to consolidate the gains already made by those who preceded them and to do everything possible to ensure excellent representation of our country and its armed forces in the accomplishment of this international mission.<\/p>\n
He hoped that the elements of the contingent would return to the country with more experience and better training.<\/p>\n
Brigadier General Abdallahi Ould Ahmed Aicha expressed his satisfaction with the encouraging results obtained by the elements of this contingent during their training on their new tasks, inviting the officers, non-commissioned officers, and gendarmes to show solidarity, sacrifice, and teamwork so that they live up to the expectations placed on them by the Supreme Chief of the National Armed Forces, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani, President of the Republic.<\/p>\n
For her part, the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Central Africa, Ms. Jane Caroline, praised the quality of the actions undertaken by the Mauritanian contingents, within the framework of the UN peacekeeping force in that country. <\/p>\n
She said that the action taken by the contingents of the national gendarmerie in Bangui was well appreciated by citizens and civil society, stressing that their deployment made it possible to secure public buildings, such as the Prime Minister’s office and the National Assembly. <\/p>\n
It should be noted that the United Nations had addressed a written congratulatory letter to the chief of staff of the gendarmerie welcoming the honorable participation of the national gendarmerie and calling for strengthening its mission in Bangui. <\/p>\n
