In a statement released on 20 July by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, it denounced the permission by the Swedish authorities to repeat such a heinous act. <\/span><\/p>\n

The statement reads as follows: <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad strongly condemns the insult and the burning of a copy of the Holy Quran in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The Mauritanian government, while renewing its condemnation of the Swedish authorities who have allowed the repetition of this heinous act, which represents an unacceptable provocation to the feelings of all Muslims and which contradicts the values of dialogue and the fundamental principles of human rights, calls on the international community to stand firmly against the destructive extremist currents that threaten the peaceful coexistence between people and cultures.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
