On 25 April, in Nouakchott, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, the President of the Republic,\u00a0 received Mr. Ahmed Attaf, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, who handed him a written message from His Excellency Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the President of the sisterly People\u2019s Democratic Republic of Algeria.<\/p>\n
Shortly after the meeting, Mr. Ahmed Attaf told the Mauritanian news agency that he had conveyed to the President of the Republic the sincere greetings and warm congratulations of the President of the Algerian Republic on the occasion of Id al-Fitr , and through him to the brotherly people of Mauritania.<\/p>\n
He added that he also transmitted to him the feelings of fraternity of his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune as well as his great satisfaction for the privileged level of fraternal relations and cooperation between the two countries and their brotherly people, as well as their promising future prospects.<\/p>\n
The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad added that for his part, His Excellency Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani instructed him to convey his greetings and consideration to his brother, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as his wishes for progress and prosperity to the Algerian people.<\/p>\n
Mr. Ahmed Attaf indicated that his visit to Nouakchott, the first since his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs, testifies to the solidity of the relations uniting the two brotherly countries and to the ardent desire of His Excellency President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to raise these relationships at the highest level.<\/p>\n
This visit, he said, follows a year of continuous consultations and coordination between the two countries, particularly since the successful state visit of His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani to Algeria in December 2021, which witnessed fruitful discussions and important results.<\/p>\n
The Algerian minister also affirmed that the visit of the President of the Republic had effectively inaugurated a new era in the construction of strategic relations between Algeria and Mauritania which include vital sectors and projects, such as the road project linking Tindouf in Algeria and Zouerate in Mauritania, whose technical field studies were launched at the end of March, stressing that the two countries have provided the material, technical, human, and financial resources for the success of this stage which will mark the effective start of the work , once the in-depth technical studies have been completed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe discussed the need to diversify and expand cooperation to all areas in light of the results of the 19th session of the High Joint Cooperation Commission held in Nouakchott last September, a meeting which contributed to strengthening bilateral cooperation in several important sectors such as higher education, vocational training, energy, trade, fishing, transport, and health\u201d, as Mr. Ahmed Attaf put it.<\/p>\n
The Algerian minister noted, in this context, that he expressed to the President of the Republic Algeria’s readiness to support the Mauritanian government’s efforts to increase the qualification of the human factor and the training of young people in specialties meeting the needs of the labor market and in the priority areas provided for in the development plans in Mauritania.<\/p>\n
\u201cI took the opportunity of the meeting to present to His Excellency President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani the visions of his brother Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who, as you know, chairs the current session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the top level,\u201d, as he said.<\/p>\n
He further affirmed that the important issues of concern to the two countries were discussed in the light of the delicate and sensitive situation in the Arab world, particularly the situation in Palestine and Sudan, as well as the international situation marked by the threats before stating that these issues and others require greater bilateral coordination given the challenges they impose.<\/p>\n
He added, “I felt from the President of the Republic a complete convergence of views and a great consensus in the common positions that we will work together to consolidate and strengthen”, after thanking His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani for the constructive discussion he had with him.<\/p>\n
