Today, Friday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, a technical cooperation program was signed between Mauritania and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), aimed at supporting national efforts to combat desert locusts and Rift Valley fever.
The program was signed on the Mauritanian side by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould El Arbi, and on the FAO side by its representative in Mauritania, Mr. Jean Senahoun.
The financial envelope for this program, which spans a period of one month, totals 300,000 US dollars. Of this amount, 100,000 dollars will support the efforts of the veterinary services at the Ministry of Livestock in fighting Rift Valley fever, while the remaining funds will support the National Desert Locust Center, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, to cover the expenses of exploration and control teams during the current month.
This support will enable the acquisition of technical equipment and logistical supplies, as well as the organization of training courses for the staff of the National Desert Locust Center in the areas of exploration, control, health, and the environment.
