Human Rights Commissioner returns from Geneva

The Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, Mr. Sid Ahmed Ould Bennane, returned on Saturday morning to Nouakchott from Geneva after participating in the 59th session of the Human Rights Council.

While in Geneva, the Commissioner chaired a seminar organized by the Office of the High Commissioner to highlight the achievements made by Mauritania in the field of human rights in general and in the fight against trafficking in persons in particular, as well as the future prospects of the various projects and programs to be implemented in this context.

On the sidelines of the 59th session of the Human Rights Council, the Commissioner held several working meetings, in the presence of H.E. Ambassador Aicha Vall Vergess, Permanent Representative of our country to the United Nations Office in Geneva, with the ambassadors of the African Group, the Organization of Islamic Action, representatives of the I During these meetings, the Commissioner reviewed Mauritania’s achievements in the protection and promotion of human rights, as well as the country’s candidacy for membership of the United Nations Committee against Torture (CAT).
