Embassy of the Republic of Ukraine opens in Nouakchott

On May 22, the Embassy of the Republic of Ukraine in Mauritania opened in Nouakchott.
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, in charge of Mauritanians abroad, Mr. Mohamed Yahya Ould Said, accompanied by Maksym Subkh, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, during a ceremony organized on the occasion, cut the symbolic ribbon marking the start of the Ukrainian embassy’s work in Nouakchott.
This step comes as a culmination of the joint bilateral efforts between the two sides to raise the level of representation and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries. It is also considered a success that adds to the brilliance of Mauritanian diplomacy abroad.
The ceremony opened with the playing of the Mauritanian and Ukrainian national anthems, in the presence of the diplomatic corps accredited to Mauritania, and dignitaries from representatives of international organizations and bodies, in addition to a number of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Mauritanians abroad.

During his speech on the occasion, Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa expressed his sincere thanks to Mauritania for the attention given to the Ukrainian delegation, explaining that the opening of this embassy came to confirm his country’s keenness to strengthen and consolidate its relations with Mauritania, which was established on September 30, 1992, pointing out recently, bilateral cooperation has gained a new positive dynamic, as political dialogue and constructive cooperation between the two countries in the international arena have been intensified.
H.E. also said that Ukraine considers Mauritania a friendly country and a promising economic partner in the Sahel region, considering that opening the embassy in Nouakchott will enable the establishment of joint projects and increase trade exchanges between the two countries.
He explained that Mauritania, as a major country in the Sahel region and currently chairs the African Union, plays an important role in achieving stability and resolving conflicts by peaceful means, hoping that it will contribute with its tireless efforts to alleviating the suffering of the Ukrainians.
